On Saturday May 25 Playa Avellanas will offer the Surf National Tournament and Crazy Monkey Bar at Tamarindo Costa Rica will be the after party.
The National Surfing Championship, organized by the Federación Nacional de Surf, is one of the most events of the year. The Kolbi National Circuit covers the whole country and travels the beaches of Central, North and South Pacific of Costa Rica. Playa Avellanas will be the stage for the next surf tournament on May 25 and 26.
Carlos Enrique Brenes, spokesman for the Federación Nacional de Surf de Costa Rica, expects about 250 athletes for this date. April and May are months of very good waves in the North Pacific.
“Guiones is always the beach with more local surf competitors. Two years ago it surpassed the number of 100 participants, which means a large percentage compared to the rest of the country. In the case of Avellanas it will be the second year in which the tournament takes place.” said Carlos Brenes to a local newspaper.
When we asked about the well known athletes, Brenes told us that for this year, there are several surfers from Guanacaste that are really succeding in the Championship and would be among the favorites to be the leaders. Among them: Tomás King Sabato, Malaki Martínez, Sulay Martínez, Coral Wiggins, Eva Woodland and Rubiana Bronwell, among others.
The categories start from the Sub 12, 14, 16, Open, Stand up Paddle, Longboard and Master. All in male and female.
For those who wish to attend, all competitions start at 7 a.m. and end at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, May 25, Crazy Monkey Bar & Restaurant will host the party for the Circuito Kolbi Avellanas. There will be a bikini parade, DJ on the terrace and very good vibes.
